Abstract

Abstract An electrical circuit for controlling the energy supplied to a load from an energy source whereby an electronic switch such as an SCR which conducts the energy from the source to the load is driven alternately into nonconduction and conduction. Connected to the electronic switch are the secondary of a transformer and a diode whose turnoff time exceeds the turnoff time of the electronic switch. When a pulse of a given polarity is supplied to the primary of the transformer, then the diode begins conducting current so that when a pulse of the opposite polarity appears across the secondary of the transformer, the diode conducts current in the reverse direction, thus reverse biasing the electronic switch. When the diode recovers, recovery of the electronic switch also takes place.
