Abstract

Abstract A prime mover is mounted on a main implement frame. A crank in the main frame is connected by a gear drive to the prime mover to be rotated thereby. In one embodiment, the crank is in a lower chamber in the main frame and the gear drive is in an upper, oilfilled, chamber in the main frame. Positioned a spaced distance from the lower end of the main frame is a housing having an internal chamber which, in another embodiment, is filled with oil. A bellows encloses the space between the housing and the main frame. An oil aperture extends through the top of the housing to the space within the bellows. A reciprocating frame comprises three rods supported by rollers for longitudinal movement in the lower chamber of the main frame and in the upper, adjacent, wall of the housing. The rollers are on the outside of the rods and are grooved to fit the rods. The rods are positioned 120* apart. The reciprocating frame has a crossmember within the main frame at the upper ends of the rods, and a plate within the housing at the lower ends of the rods. The upper crossmember is connected to the crank so as to reciprocate the reciprocating frame. A compression spring extends between the upper crossmember and the upper wall of the housing. A second compression spring extends between the upper wall of the housing and the plate in the housing. The bottom of the housing forms a tamping foot.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 99 words
In an implement comprising a main frame, a prime mover mounted on the frame, a crank drive mounted on the frame and connected to the prime mover to be driven thereby, a vibrating tool, a housing part supporting said tool, a reciprocating frame having guide rods and connected to said drive, springs resiliently between the housing part and the reciprocating frame, and means guiding the reciprocating frame in the main frame and in the housing part, the improvement wherein said means comprises rollers rotatably mounted on the main frame and on the housing part and contacting said guide rods.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 99 words
In an implement comprising a main frame, a prime mover mounted on the frame, a crank drive mounted on the frame and connected to the prime mover to be driven thereby, a vibrating tool, a housing part supporting said tool, a reciprocating frame having guide rods and connected to said drive, springs resiliently between the housing part and the reciprocating frame, and means guiding the reciprocating frame in the main frame and in the housing part, the improvement wherein said means comprises rollers rotatably mounted on the main frame and on the housing part and contacting said guide rods.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 37 words
In an implement as set forth in claim 1, wherein there are three of said rods positioned 120* from each other, said rollers have peripheral grooves and are positioned to bear against the outside of the rods.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 17 words
In an implement as set forth in claim 2, wherein said rollers are made of wear-resistant plastic.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 62 words
In an implement as set forth in claim 3, wherein said main frame is divided into two chambers, said crank drive and a part of said reciprocating frame being in one of said chambers, and including a gear drive connecting said prime mover and said crank drive and positioned in the other chamber, and a lubricating oil filling in said other chamber.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 62 words
In an implement as set forth in claim 1, wherein said main frame is divided into two chambers, said crank drive and a part of said reciprocating frame being in one of said chambers, and including a gear drive connecting said prime mover and said crank drive and positioned in the other chamber, and a lubricating oil filling in said other chamber.
