Abstract NORMAL PARAFFINS CONTAINING FROM C4 TO C6 CARBON ATOMS ARE ALKYLATED WITH C2 TO C5 OLEFINS IN THE PRESENCE OF A CATALYST COMPRISED OF FLUOROSULFONIC ACID AND A GROUP V METAL FLUORIDE SUCH AS ANTIMONY PENTAFLUORIDE AT TEMPERATURES IN THE RANGE OF -40* TO 250*F. THE NORMAL PARAFFIN IS FIRST CONTACTED WITH THE CATALYST COMPOSITION AT A TEMPERATURE IN THE RANGE OF ABOUT 80* TO 250*F. TO FORM CATIONS WHICH ARE THEREAFTER CONTACTED WITH THE OLEFIN AT A TEMPERATURE IN THE RANGE OF ABOUT -40* TO 100*F.
