Abstract A METHOD FOR PREPARING A PIGMENTED COATING COMPOSITION FOR PAPER, WHICH COMPRISES FIRST ADDING A SHOCK-INHIBITOR CONSISTING OF POLYVINYL ALCOHOL HAVING ACETYL GROUPS OF 8 TO 13% BY MOLE AND A DEGREE OF POLYMERIZATION OF ABOUT 100 TO ABOUT 500 INTO A PREVIOUSLY PREPARED AQUEOUS SUSPENSION OF PIGMENTS AND THEN ADDING A PIGMENT-BINDER CONSISTING OF POLYVINYL ALCOHOL HAVING ACETYL GROUPS OF 3 TO 7% BY MOLE AND A DEGREE OF POLYMERIZATION OF ABOUT 1,300 INTO THE SUSPENSION.
