Abstract A METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PRODUCING SPIRAL WOUND CONTAINERS IN WHICH A PLURALITY OF PLIES, COATED ON AT LEAST ONE SURFACE WHICH A THERMOPLASTIC COATING WITH THE INNER PLY COATED ON ITS INNER SURFACE WITH A SLIP OR SANITARY COATING, ARE OVERLAPPED ALONG ADJOINING EDGES AND SPIRALLY WOUND ONTO A MANDREL HEATED AND ADHESIVELY SECURED WITH A THERMOPLASTIC COATING TO FORM A MULTI-PLY SPIRALLY WOUND TUBE AND THE SPIRALLY WOUND TUBE IS CUT INTO CAN LENGTH UNITS, THE ENDS OF THE UNITS ARE FLARED AND CAN ENDS ARE ATTACHED.
