Abstract

Abstract A method of seismographic exploration, to determine the attenuation coefficient in a layer from which there is obtained substantial and persistent reflection energy, by: transforming the detected reflected signals to an integral transform domain, selecting a band of transform variables over which there is substantial and persistent reflection energy, and measuring the ratios of the amplitudes of the transformed signals to obtain a measure of the attenuation coefficient of the reflected seismic signals in the studied layer.
