Abstract

Abstract A boresight alignment instrument having a helium-neon gas laser mounted on an alignment mandrel which fits into the gun barrel. A 45* mirror directs the laser beam along a line concentric with the axis of the bore of the barrel. The mandrel has an expanding collet to insure positive locking of the mandrel in the barrel. The laser beam is aligned with the desired output axis, of the adapter assembly, by securing the adapter assembly and laser to an alignment fixture which permits rotation of the laser and adapter assembly. The mirror position is adjusted to stop all motion of the light spot when the assembly is rotated 360*. The device is used with a highly reflective target to make the device useful under all lighting conditions.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 3
Claim 1
Independent Claim 128 words
A boresight device for a gun comprising, a mandrel; a low power gas laser secured to said mandrel; mounting means, including a cone-shaped portion on the mandrel, for engaging the muzzle end of the gun barrel and a collet on the end of said mandrel; a draw rod expander positioned within said mandrel adjacent said collet; means connected to said draw rod expander for drawing said expander into said collet to thereby lock the mandrel in the gun barrel; a mirror mounted within said mounting means positioned to reflect a beam from said laser along the longitudinal axis of said mandrel; means within said mounting means for adjustably positioning the mirror whereby the laser beam can be aligned along a line concentric with the axis of the mandrel.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 128 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 40 words
The device as recited in claim 1 wherein said mandrel has a support member with three mandrel attachments thereon adapted to fit into three barrels of a multibarrel gun; a collet and collet expander on each of said mandrel attachments.
