Abstract THE PRESENT INVENTION RELATES GENERALLY TO ERECTABLE BOOMS FOR SPACE APPLICATION. MORE SPECIFICALLY, THE PRESENT INVENTION PROVIDES AN ERECTABLE BOOM CHARACTERIZED BY INCREASED STRENGTH, LIGHTER WEIGHT, AND RELATIVE IMMUNITY TO THERMAL INFLUENCES WHEN COMPARED TO CONVENTIONAL TAPE BOOMS. ALTHOUGH THE "THERMALLY TRANSPARENT" BOOM OF THE PRESENT INVENTION IS LIGHTWEIGHT AND OCCUPIES LESS VOLUME, A FOUR-INCH SQUARE UNIT WILL SUPPORT BENDING MOMENT ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE GREATER THAN CAN A CONVENTIONAL ONE-HALF INCH DIAMETER TAPE BOOM.
