Abstract
Abstract Grit is removed from attapulgite clay by dispersing the clay in water in the presence of tetrasodium pyrophosphate as a deflocculating agent and a material selected from the group consisting of hydratable magnesia, magnesium hydroxide, aluminum hydroxide and mixtures thereof as a viscosity reducing agent for the clay dispersions.
