Abstract IN THE FORMATION OF RANDOM OR BLOCK COPOLYMERS OF A CONJUGATED DIENE AND STYRENE, A YELLOW COLOR FORMS ONLY WHEN POLYMERIZATION OF TH CONJUGATED DIENE IS SUBSTANTIALLY COMPLETE. THE COLOR FORMATION IS UTILIZED TO DETERMINE THE OPTIMUM TIME FOR ADDITION OF TREATING AGENTS TO PROVIDE COUPLING AND/OR BRANCHING, SO AS TO SUBSTANTIALLY INCREASE THE MOONEY VALUE OF THE FINAL POLYMER.
