Abstract A COMPARISON CIRCUIT MONITORS NODE POINTS ON POSSIBLE PATHS THROUGH A SWITCHING NETWORK. WHEN THE NETWORK FUNCTIONS PROPERLY, SUBSTANTIALLY THE SAME VOLTAGES APPEAR AT THESE NODE POINTS REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THE CROSS-POINTS ARE TURNED ON OR OFF. WHEN THE POTENTIALS AT THESE POINTS ARE SUBSTANTIALLY DIFFERENT, IT INDICATES A CROSS-POINT MALFUNCTION. AN ALARM IS GIVEN AND A CLAMPING POTENTIAL IS APPLIED TO EITHER ENABLE OR INHIBIT THE FAULTY CIRCUIT, AS REQUIRED.
