Abstract A NICKEL STRIPPING COMPOSITION COMPRISING A POLYPHOSPHATE, A NITRO-ORGANIC COMPOUND AND A BASE TO RENDER THE COMPOSITION DEFINITELY ALKALINE IN SOLUTION, WHEREIN THE COMPOSITION IS MODIFIED BY THE INCLUSION OF A THIOSULFATE TO MAKE IT MORE OR LESS SELECTIVE IN STRIPPING NICKEL IN THE PRESENCE OF COPPER OR OTHER METALS WHICH HAVE A TENDENCY TO INHIBIT THE STRIPPING ACTION, AND WHEREIN THERE IS ALSO INCLUDED A SOLUBLE SULFITE TO AFFORD PROLONGED HIGH TEMPERATURE OPERATION OF THE STRIPPING BATH WITHOUT DECOMPOSITION.
