Abstract A COMPOUNDED ETHYLENE-PROPYLENE DIENE MONOMER (EPDM) SUITABLE FOR USE IN MANUFACTURING AN IMPROVED CLOSED CELL SPONGE BY THE FREE EXPANSION METHOD AND THE PROCESS FOR PREPARING SAID COMPOUNDED EPDM WHICH COMPRISES BLENDING THE EPDM WITH A REINFORCING BLACK AND A CHEMICAL PROMOTER AND HEAT TREATING AT AN ELEVATED TEMPERATURE FOR A TIME SUFFICIENT TO BOND THE EPDM TO THE REINFORCING BLACK, THEREBY INCREASING THE TENSILE MODULUS OF THE EPDM.
