Abstract A METHOD OF MAKING A SYNTHETIC ORGANIC RESIN IMPREGNATED WOOD MEMBER WHEREIN THE WOOD IS PRETREATED WITH AN ACTIVATOR, SUCH AS DIMETHYL ANILINE, IN THE VAPOR PHASE. A SYNTHETIC ORGANIC LIQUID RESINOUS COMPOSITION CONTAINING, FOR EXAMPLE. STYRENE AND AN UNSATURATED POLYESTER CATALYZED WITH BENZOYL PEROXIDE IS THEN IMPREGNATED INTO THE WOOD AT ABOUT ROOM TEMPERATURE CAUSING THE RESIN TO POLYMERIZE WITHIN THE WOOD.
