Abstract A COMPOSITE HEAT RESISTANT ELEMENT IS FORMED BY WINDING COMPOSITE TAPES ABOUT A MANDREL, EACH TAPE HAVING DISCRETE PORTIONS OF CARBON AND SILICA. TO RESIST DELAMINATION OF THE BODY AT THE INTERFACE BETWEEN THE CARBON AND SILICA, THE INTERFACE IS INTERLOCKED WITHIN A ZONE WITHIN THE BODY RATHER THAN ALONG A CONTINUOUS LINE.
