Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 179 words
A method of tying an elongated bundle of cables or the like by means of a deformable plastic strap taken from imperforate stock, comprising the steps of providing a pin and a lock having a straight passageway therethrough and at least one bore therein of a diameter substantially larger than that of said pin, said bore extending substantially transversely of said passageway and having a beveled outer end, positioning said lock adjacent to said elongated bundle of cables with said passageway extending substantially transversely to the longitudinal direction of said elongated bundle of cables, placing said strap around said cables and tensioning said strap while accommodating strap material in said passageway of the lock, causing said pin to penetrate said bore of the lock and engage said strap material to force a portion thereof in cup-shaped form through said bore into said beveled outer end of the bore with one end of said pin positioned therein, and deforming said one end of the pin in said beveled portion of the bore to securely fasten said strap to said lock.
Claim 2
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 146 words
In a method of tying a bundle of cables or the like by means of a strap taken from the imperforate stock, the steps of providing at least one pin and a lock having a slot therein and further having at least one bore extending substantially transversely to said slot, said bore of the lock having an enlarged portion, placing said strap around said cables and accommodating at least one end of said strap in said slot of the lock, tensioning said strap around said cables, causing said pin to penetrate said bore of the lock and engage at least said one end of the strap, subjecting said pin to axial pressure so as to plastically deform and upset said pin by forcing material thereof into said enlarged bore portion, and maintaining said pin in engagement with said strap to secure the strap to said lock.
Claim 4
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 123 words
In a method of tying a bundle of cables or the like by means of a strap taken from imperforate stock, the steps of providing at least one pin and a lock having a slot therein and further having at least one bore extending substantially transversely to said slot, said lock being integral with said strap at one end of the latter, placing said strap around said cables, accommodating the other end of said strap in said slot of the lock, tensioning said strap around said cables, causing said pin to penetrate said bore of the lock and engage and penetrate said other end of the strap, and maintaining said pin in engagement with said strap to secure the strap to said lock.
