Abstract A FABRIC IS MADE BY MECHANICALLY INTERLOCKING A NONWOVEN FABROUS WEB INTO A SHRINKABLE WOVEN SCRIM AND THEN SHRINKING THE SCRIM BY HEAT AND COMPRESSION TO CONTRACT THE SCRIM ABOUT THE INTERLOCKED NON-WOVEN FIBERS. THE SHRINKING AND SIMULTANEOUS CRIMPING OF THE SCRIM PRODUCES A SOFT AND SOMEWHAT EXTENSIBLE FELT-LIKE FABRIC.
