Abstract HEAVY HYDROCARBONACCEOUS RESIDUES ARE UPGRADED TO LIGHTER FRACTIONS BY COPYROLYZING THEM WITH COAL PARTICLES-PREVIOUSLY HEATED TO REMOVE FROM ABOUT 1% TO ABOUT 10% VOLATILES THEREFROM-IN THE FLUIDIZED STATE, AT A TEMPERATURE BETWEEN ABOUT 850*F., AND ABOUT 1100*F. AND RECOVERING THE RESULTANT OILY DISTILLATES AND CARBONACEOUS RESIDUES.
