Abstract 3-CHLORO-1,2,5-THIADIAZOLES SUBSTITUTE AT THE 4-POSITION WITH A HYDROXY OR HYDROCARBONOXY FUNCTION ARE SYNTHESIZED DIRECTLY FROM OPEN CHAIN CYANOFORMAMIDE OR AN ALKYL CYANOFORMIMIDATE BY TREATING THE LATTER WITH SULFUR MONO- OR DICHLORIDE. THESE COMPOUNDS ARE EMPLOYED AS INTERMEDIATES IN THE SYNTHESIS OF SULFATHIADIAZOLES HAVING ANTIPARASITIC AND ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY.
