Abstract FIELD-IONIZATION ELECTRODES COMPRISING AN ARRAY OF MICROSCOPICALLY SMALL RODS HAVING THEIR LENGTHS AND TIP CONFIGURATIONS EQUALIZED. MATCHING OF THE ELECTRODE ELEMENTS IS ACCOMPLISHED BY FIELD EVAPORATION PERMITTED BY THE HIGH PHYSICAL STRENGTH OF THE INDIVIDUAL RODS.
