Abstract A GAS LASEF INCLUDING MEANS FOR FLOWING THE GAS THROUGH AN OPTICAL CAVITY AND MEANS FOR ESTABLISHING A DISCHARGE WITHIN THE GAS TO PRODUCE STIMULATED EMISSION. AN AUXILIARY POTENTIAL DIFFERENCE IS ESTABLISHED IN THE GAS ENCLOSURE BUT OUTSIDE THE PRIMARY DISCHARGE REGION TO PREVENT THE ACCUMULATION OF ABSORBING OR SCATTERING PARTICLES ON THE WINDOWS THROUGH WHICH THE LASER BEAM IS TRANSMITTED. THE POTENTIAL DIFFERENCE MAY BE LARGE ENOUGH TO PRODUCE A DISCHARGE.
