Abstract
Abstract A PHOTOSENSITIVE COMPOSITION COMPRISES A SOLUTION OF THE PHOTOSENSITIZER 9.10-PHENANTHRENEQUINONE (WHICH MAY BE SUBSTITUTED BY ELECTRONEGATIVE GROUPS). A SALT OF ANY METAL ION ABOVE HYDROGEN IN THE ELECTROMOTIVE SERIES, AND A HYDROGEN DONOR SUCH AS DIETHYLENE GLYCOL. THE HYDROGEN DONOR HAS TO BE OF THE TYPE WHICH REACTS ONLY WITH PHOTOACTIVATED PHENANTHRENEQUINONE, I.E., HYDROGEN DONATION MUST NOT OCCUR IN THE ABSENCE OF EXPOSURE TO ACTINIC RADIATION. PHOTOSENSITIVE ELEMENTS ARE MADE BY COATING THE COMPOSITIONS ONTO SUPPORTS. EXPOSURE TO ACTINIC RADIATION CAUSES THE FORMATION OF COLOR IN THE COMPOSITION.
