Abstract

Abstract Castable compositions including soluble or colloidal silicates as binding agent. The composition is cast as an aqueous slurry in a mold coated with a reagent for precipitating the silicate, to prevent penetration of silicates into the mold surface. A lightweight, expandable, refractory tube having excellent resistance to thermal shock is produced.
