Abstract THE AMINO GROUP OF AN ANILINO DERIVATIVE CAN BE ALKYLATED WITH AN ALIPHATIC ALCOHOL CARRYING OUT THE REACTION BETWEEN THE INGREDIENTS IN THE VAPOR PHASE IN THE PRESENCE OF A MAGNESIUM OXIDE CATALYST AT ELEVATED TEMPERATURES. THE COMPOSITIONS PREPARED BY THIS PROCESS ARE USEFUL AS DYES AND DYE INTERMEDIATES, AS ANTISEPTICS, AS INTERMEDIATES IN ORGANIC SYNTHESES, AND IN THE MANUFACTURE OF RESINS, VARNISHES, ETC.
