Abstract DEFROSTING APPARATUS FOR A REFRIGERATING UNIT IS PROVIDED WITH A COMPRESSOR, CONDENSER AND EVAPORATOR CONNECTED IN SERIES. A DEFROSTING BY-PASS ARRANGEMENT IS CONNECTED TO THE EVAPORATOR AND CONDENSER SO THAT UPON THE DETECTION OF FROST ON THE EVAPORATOR, BY A SUITABLE DEVICE, THERE IS EFFECTED A CLOSED FLOW PATH BETWEEN THE EVAPORATOR AND CONDENSER, WHICH BY-PASSES THE COMPRES- SOR. THE COMPRESSOR IS STOPPED DURING THE ENTIRE DEFROSTING PERIOD.
