Abstract
Abstract A PLASTIC CONTAINER IS FORMED BY EXPANDING A PARISON IN A BLOW MOLD. THE PART OF THE BLOW MOLD THAT SHAPES THE BOTTOM OF THE CONTAINER IS A MOVABLE FLAPPER. AFTER THE EXPANSION OF THE PARISON IS COMPLETED, THE FLAPPER IS MOVED INWARDLY AGAINST THE BOTTOM OF THE CONTAINER TO INCREASE THE THICKENSS OF THE PLASTIC MATERIAL AT THE BOTTOM RIM OF THE CONTAINER AND THEREBY INCREASE THE STRENGTH OF THE CONTAINER. THE FLAPPER IS THEN RETRACTED AND THE CONTAINER REMOVED.
