Abstract A DIRECTION-RESPONSIVE SWITCH IS COUPLED TO A CONTROL SYSTEM FOR SELECTIVELY ACTUATING CONTROLS IN RESPONSE TO THE OCCURRENCE AND DIRECTION OF A SHORT-CIRCUIT IN A DC VOLTAGE NETWORK. THE SWITCH IS COUPLED TO A VOLTAGE COMPONENT CONNECTED IN THE NETWORK FOR PROVIDING A VOLTAGE IN PROPORTION TO THE CURRENT IN THE NETWORK TO ACTUATE THE SWITCH UPON THE VOLTAGE PROVIDED BY THE VOLTAGE COMPONENT EXCEEDING A PREDETERMINED MAGNITUDE THEREBY INDICATING THE OCCURRENCE OF A SHORT-CIRCUIT IN THE NETWORK.
