Abstract A PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF BENZENE AND XYLENE BY THE DISPROPORTIONATION OF TOLUENE BY CONTACTING TOLUENE IN THE PRESENCE OF HYDROGEN UNDER HEATING WITH A CATALYST WHICH IS PREPARED BY MIXING A DEALKALIZED CLINOPTILOLITE WITH AN ALUMINUM FLUORIDE HAVING A CRYSTALLITE SIZE OF LESS THAN 1700 A. BEFORE THE MIXING FOR THE PREPARATION OF THE CATALYST. THE CATALYST MAY CONTAIN COPPER OR SILVER AS THE THIRD COMPONENT.
