Abstract A LONG THIN SHAFT IS INHERENTLY DAMPED AGAINST VIBRATION WHICH WOULD OTHERWISE OCCUR AT CRITICAL SPEEDS OF THE SHAFT BY VIRTUE OF A HOLLOW SHAFT ENCLOSING AND ROTATING WITH THE SHAFT AND SLIGHTLY SPACED FORM IT, WITH A DAMPING MATERIAL FILLING THE SPACE BETWEEN THE TWO SHAFTS.
