Abstract UPON SENSING A DIMENSIONAL IRREGULARITY IN ROD BEING ROLLED FROM CONTINUOSULY CAST BAR BY A MILL, A SENSING MECHANISM OPERATES A SWITCH TO STOP THE MILL AND TO SEVER AND DIVERT FURTHER CONTINUOUSLY CAST BAR FROM THE MILL. THE SENSING MECHANISM IS FORMED OF RADIALLY MOVABLE SWITCH ACTUATING MEMBERS SURROUNDING THE MOVING ROD AND SPACED FROM THE ROD BY A PREDETERMINED TOLERANCE.
