Abstract A METALLURGICAL BOND BETWEEN DISSIMILAR METALS IS OBTAINED BY USING COMPATIBLE SHIMS BETWEEN THE MEAL MEMBERS WHICH WILL FORM A METALLURGICAL BOND TO EACH OTHER AND TO THE DISSIMILAR METALS. WHERE COPPER AND ALUMINUM ARE THE METALS, A COPPER-SILVER PHOSPHORUS SHIM AND SILVER SHIM ARE USED. A TIN SHIM MAY BE USED BETWEEN THE COPPER-SILVER-PHOSPHORUS SHIM AND THE SILVER SHIM TO IMPROVE THEIR BONDING CHARACTERISTICS. HEAT AND PRESSURE ARE USED TO FORM THE BOND.
