Adsorbent for gas-solid chromatography
Abstract
Abstract 1,225,902. Gas-solid chromatographic adsorbent. MINE SAFETY APPLIANCES CO. 24 April, 1969 [8 May, 1968], No. 21026/69. Heading B1L. An adsorbent for gas-solid chromatography is obtained by impregnating a porous inorganic support such as firebrick or silicon dioxide with a hydrolyzable mono-# (3,4-epoxycyclohexyl) ethyl trisubstituted silane passing saturated moist air through the agitated material at 50-75‹C. to hydrolyze the material and bond it to the substrate, and then purging the product with inert gas, e.g. N 2 or He, at about 375‹C. to remove volatile hydrolysis products. The preferred silane is trimethoxy compound, but the trihalo, triaryloxy, and triacetoxy silanes may also be used. Using He as carrier, the adsorbent is especially suitable for the separation of each gas mixtures as natural gas, but may also be used to separate mixtures containing H 2 , N 2 , O 2 , A, CO, NO, CO 2 , N 2 O, COS, CH 4 , C 2 H 6 , C 3 H 8 , butanes, pentanes C 2 H 4 C 3 H 6 , and C 2 H 2 generally.
