Method of making a sealing gasket
Abstract
Abstract 1,140,498. Joint-making packing. AMERICAN AIR FILTER CO. Inc. 25 Oct., 1967 [25 Oct., 1966], No. 48561/67. Heading F2B. An endless gasket is made from sheet material 2 by forming in the sheet longitudinally extending sections 3, 7 and 8 in compact adjacent relationship with each section integrally joined to an adjacent section through a corner 11, 13 on the extremity of one section joined to the other section with the remainder of the extremity being free; removing the sections from the sheet; and pivotally expanding them about the joined corners so that the free extremities abut the adjacent sections to form the gasket. The sheet 2 may be of natural or synthetic rubber or plastics material. In a modification, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), an annular gasket is formed by four segments (32) integrally connected at adjacent corners (35, 36). A dovetail arrangement (37, 38, Fig. 5) may be provided at the junctions.
