Apparatus for storing or conveying bulk material comprises a surface which is protected by a lining 7 of rubber secured to the surface by a fastener having a spring portion 1 embedded in the lining so that when the lining deforms under the influence of the bulk material the spring portion expands or contracts with it. The surface may be that of a container or conveyer shaft through the wall 6 of which, and into the lining 7, a hole 8 is drilled to receive the fastener. The fastener comprises a screw having a head 2 and a projecting pin 3 to which the spring 1 having portions 4, 5 of different diameter is secured. The tip 16 of the screw cuts into the lining when the fastener is screwed in to the hole. The spring shank may consist of two helical springs and the fasteners may be vulcanized into the lining.
