PCB connector making solderless contacts - uses sharp protrusions to pierce insulation of ribbons cables to engage printed tracks
Abstract
Abstract Each unstripped individual wire (3) of the ribbon cable is inserted in a separate aperture in the top of the connector housing (1). The metal connectors (6) are pressed into the housing and retained by sprung-out protrusions. Shart protrusions (8a, 8b, 8c) on the front edges of the connectors grip and puncture the insulation (5) of the wires to make contact with the conductive cores (4). When the locating and retaining pins (14,15) on the lower face of the housing are inserted in holes in the bord (11), sprung contacts (9) on the lower ends of the metal pieces make contact with appropriate parts of the conductive track (10) on the board.
