Abstract

Abstract The arrangement is intended for a surfing sail (1) to vary the effective sail surface area so that it can be adapted to the prevailing wind force whilst sailing without altering the peripheral dimensions of the sail. It comprises an opening (8) in the sail and a cover plate (7) which is slidable over the opening to vary its cross-sectional area. The plate may itself be provided with an opening (13). The plate is pref. spring-loaded (resilient straps 5) and may be operated via a cable (2) which runs over a pulley (3) on the mast (4). It may be slidable in a pocket (10) stitched to the sail.
