Element to couple laser beam to optical fibre - is made from two types of glass with core and sheath having different viscosity
Abstract
Abstract The coupling element is used to couple a radiation source such as a diode laser, with a symmetrical light beam of a mono-mode of an optical transmission fibre. It uses a lens and an adaptor. A fibre is produced from one glass as a core material and another glass as the sheathing material. The fibre is first mounted with the axis vertical and heated from a distance five times the diameter of the core for a sufficiently long period. The temperature is such that the viscosity of the core will be given range. The glass chosen for the sheathing has a viscosity of a higher value for the same temp. condition.
