Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To reduce the number of contacts to the driving circuits of lower electrodes to 50% by connecting to a common driving circuit connecting up and down at each lower electrode line to link the upper and the lower membra nous EL elements, and connecting the upper electrodes independently to the driving circuit respectively. CONSTITUTION:To a transparent or opaque substrate 1 of glass, ceramics, or the like, and to a transparent substrate 11 of glass, ceramics, or the like, lower electrodes 2 and 12 composing matrix electrodes, lower insulator layers 3 and 13 consisting of an oxide or a nitride over the lower electrodes, and EL luminous operators of double structure consisting of a ZnS:Tb (green) lumi nous layer 4, a ZnS:Mn (orange color) luminous layer 14, and upper insulator layers 5 and 15, are laminated, and moreover, upper electrodes 6 and 16 compos ing matrix electrodes are formed on the upper insulator layer 5 and 15. In such a composition, each substrate has N lines of scanning electrodes, and when plural substrates (S sheets) are laminated to compose a multicolor lumi nous panel, the connection lines between the scanning electrodes and the driving circuits of the panel can be made only N lines instead of NXS lines.
