Calcium phosphate compact and production thereof
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To make it possible to provide a compact having excellent strength and bone inductivity, by the presence of fine unevennesses on the surface of a dense sintered compact containing tricalcium phosphate and apatite. CONSTITUTION:A dense sintered compact containing tricalcium phosphate (TCP) and apatite is dipped in an eluate as described below to elute the TCP from the surface of the compact and form fine many unevennesses consisting of the apatite on the surface thereof. Since the central part has a high relative density (about >=90%), this compact is a sintered compact, having a high strength and high bone inductivity due to fine unevennesses on the outer surface and useful as a substitute material for biological hard tissues or filling material. Examples of the eluate used for preparing the above-mentioned compact are aqueous solutions of weak acids, such as citric acid, lactic acid or acetic acid, and an aqueous solution containing a strong acid, such as hydrochloric acid, is unsuitable, since not only the TCP but also the apatite is remarkably corroded.
