Iron head of low gravity center structure

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE: To provide an iron head which has high hardness and is excellent in wear resistance, and by which the repulsion of a ball at the time of an impact is improved by providing a composite layer where a fiber molding formed of an inorganic fiber is filled with a light alloy on at least a part of a face side of a head formed by inserting a core made of an iron-base alloy of high specific gravity into low specific gravity light alloy. CONSTITUTION: A core 1 is created in such a manner that the hosel part 1a, a neck part 1b, a heal part 1c, a sole part 1d, and a toe part 1e of an iron head and a weight part 1f for a low gravity center structure are formed by stainless steel. In the case of inserting the core 1 into an aluminum alloy 2, an aluminum alloy is filled and compound in a fiber molding of silicon carbide whisker and woven fabric of silicon carbide long fiber to provide a surface layer 3a 1mm thick where silicon carbide whisker is compound and an inner surface layer 3b 4mm thick where woven fabric of silicon carbide long fibers is compounded. At the time of an impact, a line connecting between the center of gravity G1 of the head 5 and the center of gravity G2 of a golf ball 6 can be easily made right-angled to the face side so as to obtain stable and high path with high spin and a large fly distance.
