Optical wavelength converting element
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To prevent the second higher harmonic from being absorbed by a non-linear type optical material, and to fetch the second higher harmonic of a large capacity to the outside, by placing eccentrically against a clad, a core constituted of a non-linear optical material of a Cherenkov radiation type element whose phase matching is taken between a waveguide mode of a fundamental wave and a radiation mode to a clad of the second higher harmonic. CONSTITUTION:An optical wavelength converting element 10 of a fiber type is constituted of a Cherenkov radiation type element whose phase matching is taken between an operation mode by a core 11 of a fundamental wave 15, and a radiation mode to a clad 12 of the second higher harmonic 15. The core 11 is placed eccentrically against the center C of the clad 12 of this wavelength converting element 10, the probability by which the second higher harmonic 15 is made incident on the core 11 is lowered, and the probability by which it advances along the optical path separated from the core 11 is raised. In this state, the fundamental wave 15 from a semiconductor laser 16 is condensed by an objective lens 17, brought to a wavelength conversion to the second higher harmonic 15 by the wavelength converting element 10, and emitted.
