Semiconductor device capable of optical communication
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To provide a semiconductor device that makes it possible to perform an optical communication by inserting an optical fiber in a hole which is transversely made in a ceramic package base and, inside of which is applied with low fusion point glass and also fixing the optical fiber by causing glass to be fused after connecting it with a semiconductor element through a photodetector or a light emitting diode as well as an outer terminal. CONSTITUTION:A semiconductor element 6 that is fixed at a center part on a package base 5 is connected with an outer lead terminal 4 on the base 5 by a wire for bonding. An electronic switch 11 for changing over a photodetector 9 and a light emitting diode 10 that are housed in an optical communication function part 8 as well as a control part for controlling the above functions are mounted at the above function part 8. The optical fiber 2 inserted in a hole 3 that is transversely prepared in the base 5 is connected with the function part 8 and is in sequence connected with the semiconductor element 6 through the lead terminal 4 and the wire 7. The connected optical fiber permits a low fusing point glass 13 applied inside the hole 3 to be heat-molten to fix to a device 1 and can be connected with the semiconductor element 6 that is housed in the package.
