Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain an olefin (co)polymer having a high bulk specific gravity, improved powder property and narrow molecular weight distribution with excellent polymerization activity, by using a novel highly active polymerization catalyst consisting of a specific solid catalyst component and aluminoxane. CONSTITUTION:A transition metal compound of group IVB metal of the periodic table having a polydentate compound in which two or more groups selected from (substituted) indenyl group and partial hydrogenated groups thereof are linked through a lower alkylene group as a ligand is initially supported on an inorganic carrier, preferably SiO2, etc., to give a solid catalyst component. An olefin is (co)polymerized in the presence of a catalyst consisting of (A) the above-mentioned solid catalyst component and (B) an aluminoxane. Ethylenebis(indenyl)dimethylzirconium, etc., are preferred as the transition metal compound in the component (A).
