Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To improve riding sensation and drive stability, by a method wherein, from the damping force of a shock absorber, relative displacement and further the vertical excitation force of a wheel are estimated, and when the excitation force exceeds a given value decided as the function of relative displacement, the damping force is decreased. CONSTITUTION:The damping force of a shock absorber is detected by means of piezoelectric type load sensors 1a-1d situated to a shock absorber mounted to each wheel to input it to a microcomputer 4. The microcomputer 4 estimates a relative speed V between a car body and a tyre according to a given procedure, and integrates it to estimate relative displacement A. From relative displacement and damping force, the vertical excitation force of the car body is computed. A damping force shifting set value is then decided as the function of relative displacement. When the excitation force exceeds the damping force shifting set value, a damping force shifting means is controlled so that the damping force is decreased. This constitution enables improvement of riding sensation and drive stability.
