Thermal recording material

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To form a transparent thermal layer having high heat sensitivity, by a method wherein a colorless or light-colored basic dye precursor and a coupler are combined as a color forming system and the former is contained in a microcapsule while the latter is emulsified and dispersed under a specific condition before both of them are mixed to be applied to a support. CONSTITUTION:A coating solution containing a microcapsule having a color former enclosed therein and a dispersant containing at least a coupler in an emulsified and dispersed state and further containing other additive such as a binder is prepared and applied to a support such as a paper or a synthetic resin film by a bar or blade coating method and dried. The thermal layer of the thermal recording material has extremely good transparency. As a basic dye precursor as a color former, a colored or light-colored one is appropriately selected from compounds donating an electron or receiving a proton such as an acid to form a color. As a coupler, one melted along with the basic leuco dye under heating to generate color forming reaction is appropriately used and dissolved in an org. solvent hardly soluble or insoluble in water and subse quently emulsified and dispersed before use.
