Diamond coated sintered hard tool material
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain a sintered hard tool material having a long service life by forming a thin SiC layer on a formed body of a sintered hard WC-Co substance before the formed body is coated with diamond by CVD. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a formed body of a sintered hard WC-Co substance as a base material is mirror-polished and the exposed Co is removed by electrolysis in an acidic soln. contg. 2wt.% CoSO4 at about 10mA/cm<2> current density. The Co-free surface is coated with SiC by sputtering, ion plating or other method to form an SiC layer of about 0.01-1mum thickness. This SiC layer is coated with diamond by CVD. Since nuclei for growing diamond are produced at very high density, a thin diamond coat joined firmly to the surface of the base material is formed.
