Optically active 6-alkoxynaphthalene-2-carboxylic acid ester compound and liquid crystal
Abstract
Abstract NEW MATERIAL:A compound shown by formula I (R1 is 6-18C alkyl; R2 is optically active alkyl; X is C or N)> EXAMPLE:6-( 6'-n-Tetradecyloxynaphthyl-2'-carboxyloxy ) pyridine-3-carboxylic acid(S)-2-methylbutyl ester. USE:A component for liquid crystal composition. A compound having improved weather resistance, smectic liquid crystal, especially ferroelectricity and showing chiral smectic C liquid crystallizability useful as a display element material. PREPARATION:A compound shown by formula II is reacted with thionyl chloride according to the reaction formula and an unreacted substance is removed to give a corresponding acid chloride shown by formula III. Then this acid chloride is dissolved in an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent such as benzene, toluene, etc., and reacted with a 4-hydroxybenzoic acid optically active alkyl ester shown by formula IV in the presence of pyridine, etc., to give a compound shown by formula I.
