Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To facilitate focusing detection when an object which moves is traced and photographed by switching the 1st focus detection zone to the 2nd wider focus detection zone and repeating focus detecting operation specific times when a focus detection failure state is detected. CONSTITUTION:Object light is incident on an optical system 1 for photography and focus detection, split by a half-mirror H1, and incident on an image pickup part 2 and a focus detection part 10. A detection part 10 consists of a linear sensor, whose sensor output is inputted to a microprocessor 9 through an A/D converter. The processor 9 performs focus detection with the 1st focus detection zone set on the sensor and switches the 1st detection zone to the 2nd wider detection zone when the focus detection failure state is detected to perform the focus detection. When the focus detection failure state is detected again, the focus detecting operation is repeated specific times with the 2nd focus detection zone. Thus, the focus detection is facilitated when the moving object is traced and photographed.
