Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To balance the charging quantity of right and left banks and prevent knocking, etc. by setting the back pressure of an exhaust passage on a bank side with a smaller intake passage resistance higher, in the captioned V-engine in which there is a difference between intake passage resistances to right and left banks. CONSTITUTION:Right and left banks 2L, 2R are provided in a V-engine 1 and a surge tank 3 having right and left parts 3L, 3R is provided on the center of the upper part of the banks. right and left intake passages 5L, 5R having different curvatures and ventilation resistances, as well as right and left exhaust passages 6L, 6R are connected to the right and left parts of the surge tank, respectively. In this structure, the passage length l of the left side exhaust passage 6L of the left side bank 2L having a larger charging quantity is made larger, whereas, the passage length l' of the right side exhaust passage 6R of the right side bank 2R having a smaller charging quantity is made smaller. Thereby, the back pressure of the left side discharge passage 6L is made higher, whereas, the back pressure of the right side passage 6R is made lower.
