Production of optical fiber
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To improve the adhesion strength between a protective layer and an optical fiber element wire by coating a resinous material contg. a silane coupling agent on the surface of the optical fiber element wire as the protective layer, heating the wire in a high-humidity atmosphere, and then drying the wire. CONSTITUTION:A resinous material such as an UV ray-curing polyurethane acrylate and UV ray-curing epoxy acrylate added with a silane coupling agent such as n-(trimethoxysilylpropyl)ethylenediamine and gamma- aminopropyltriethoxysilane is coated on an optical fiber base wire. The coated wire is dipped in water, or heated at 40-120 deg.C in a high-humidity atmosphere at >=80% relative humidity. The wire is then dried at about 100 deg.C to strongly adhere the protective film layer to the optical fiber element wire. The deterioration in the strength of the optical fiber with the lapse of time is thus prevented, and the optical fiber maintaining reliability for a long period is produced.
